Description
Probably 1940’s. Nice irregularly shaped 7 1/4″ long (at widest points) footed box with removable lid. Beautifully made with inset mother of pearl like piece that are likely Abalone shell due to the iridescent appearance. All hand done with images of two dressed Chinese men playing what appears to be the ancient game of GO though they could also be gambling. Hand etched gentle facial features and colored clothing that may also be an inlay. Single Chinese character repeated on both long sides. Much less than normal wear mostly on edges. Inlay is for the most part unaffected with only a couple of small edge pieces damaged. Good integrity on this piece and in overall excellent condition.
