Description
Only 20 of these were ever made and most personally given or used in store display. Made by the Guetta Brothers who, in addition to creating some fantastic advertising and cartoon art pieces, went on to open the “Too Cute” retail store chain. These stores sold items like the Disney store except all the characters were the cool ones you rarely saw in merchandise then or now. Characters featured included the Pink Panther, Woody Woodpecker and his friends, Betty Boop and other greats. In addition to having their own created art, the stores were peppered with Collectibles and vintage decor.
This figure was one of the first designed for the small chain and we acquired it years ago when the brothers closed the Washington, D.C. area store. It is hand signed and numbered by Tony Guetta on the back brim on the boy’s Cowboy hat along with the appropriate title of the piece, “Too Cute!”. This title is also embossed and painted White along the front/bottom of the base. Back/bottom of the base has incised number of the piece, “13/20” and “Varon ’92” 11 3/4″ tall!
We believe this is a composition material reinforced with wire (based on other figures we had with some damage exposing interior) though it may be a type of heavy resin. Solid piece.
Condition is like new, we can’t find any defects and there certainly aren’t any significant ones if we missed the tiniest of things.
It is extremely likely that this figure is one of even less than 20 to survive given that at least 1/4 of them were used in the retail locations and those along with many others could easily have been broken during these many years. Other surviving examples are certainly cherished by the owners to whom Tony presented them to. Here’s you chance to own a truly rare advertising stature/figure that other advertising collectors will drool over for years to come.
