40’s. Great unused set of 3 linen towels with cross stitched, large (about 7-8″) pictures.
Nicely detailed in Black, Red, Yellow, Green, Brown and Silver. Not all colors used on each towel but all in multiple colors.
Linens are approximately 16″ x 31″ and they are White with striped Red and Black edges. Each picture features a stereotypical Mammy character performing household tasks.
First shows Mammy ironing at the ironing board with a little girl in a Green dress looking on.
Second has Mammy Sewing the same girls dress while she is still wearing it.
The third shows the pair both sweeping the floor with brooms. Picture hides subtle facial details, etc.. Towels have a handing linen hook at the corner.
Though unused, they have some fold marks that should wash out. NM and scarce.
