Description
This is the color remake of a classic 1930’s cartoon done in the 1950’s. This is a one of a kind hand inked production cel and comes with a certificate stating same from the well known animation gallery, Gallery Lainzberg. Lainzberg is no longer open but they were pioneers in animation art sales and are still searchable on the net because of that.
This is from our retail managers personal collection and has never been displayed or removed (save to look at it) from the original preservation envelope. Lainzberg was known for their quality layered matting jobs with nice color accents. This piece has inner matting in complimentary Purple/Lavender followed by one in Black. Our retail manger dealt exclusively with John Cairns at Lainzberg who was their first sales representative for telephone catalog sales who went one to open his own gallery after Lainzberg closed in 2002. This piece was purchased in the late 1980’s..
Back side still has bag attached with certificate, explanation of what a production cel is and gold authenticity sticker for framing. For you new to collecting these great pieces, these are not produced for sale as many “limited editions” or sericels are but they are hand inked single cel pieces used in a single animation frame. Obviously survivability is a real issue for older pieces and pieces with great characters images such as these are even rarer.
Great early Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies
13″ x 15″ outer edge matting with 7 1/2″ x 9 1/4″ center/image area. Classic images with huge boxing rooster and Pelican referee. Great for that boxing fan too!
